Cooper finally lost his first tooth!!! He was so brave as Shea pulled it out with a tissue yesterday. He didn't flinch, and he spent the next 4 hours or so beaming and talking constantly about his lost tooth.
"Mom, the tooth fairy is this big" as he showed me with his fingers an inch apart.
"Mom, it feels really weird to lose a tooth."
"Mom, yesterday was my Lose Tooth Eve!" (I laughed at that one.)
"Mom, Mom, Mom, if you lose two teeth, does the tooth fairy bring you $20?" Uh, not the tooth fairy I know!
For the most part, I absolutely love having twins. On days like yesterday though, when one reaches a milestone first, it is so hard. Camden was really happy for Cooper for about 20 minutes. Then he saw how much attention Coop was getting, and he realized that his teeth aren't quite as loose, and he got really sad. He cried and told me it wasn't fair. And it's not. But I told him it would be--eventually. I had a hard time trying to be excited for Cooper and trying to be sensitive to how Camden was feeling.
Later in the evening, Cooper had a breakdown, and it was probably my fault. I kept teasing him that I would glue his tooth back in so he would stay little and not grow up. I guess he started thinking and decided he didn't want to grow up. He didn't want to loose any more teeth. He didn't want to ever be bigger than his mom and dad. And he definitely didn't ever want to move away from home. Sweet boy. All I could do then was to pull him on my lap and tell him that he would ALWAYS be my little buddy. He could always sit on my lap, and I was always ready to snuggle him. After a while, his crying stopped and we went down to the basement to enjoy a movie.
This morning both boys rushed into my room at 7:45 to show me what the tooth fairy had left. It was a note congratulating Cooper on losing his first tooth and a crisp $1 bill. It seems they were both done being concerned and they were excited. (The tooth fairy was smart and mentioned how excited she was to visit Cooper again and to visit Camden as soon as he lost his first tooth.)
